Back Pain

low back pain

About 85 percent of the population will experience disabling back pain at least once during their lives!  That includes the majority of us.

We take a different approach to the treatment and prevention of back pain.  No matter what the condition, it is imperative that we perform a thorough and comprehensive exam to determine the nature of our patient’s condition.  Aterwards, Dr. David Cox, DC determines which part of the nervous system is not functioning properly.

If your sciatic nerve is inflammed, that is called sciatica (pronounced si-at-i-ka).  The pain can become very intense.  Frequently the pain follows the path of the nerve down the back of your legs, thighs, ankle, foot and even into your toes.  It call also extend into your back.

In addition to sharp pains and a possible burning sensation, you may also experience a pins-and-needles, tingling, or tenderness.  Odd as it may sound, you might even have a numbness as well.  The pain could even go down the front or side of the legs and hips.

The quality and frequency of pain will vary from person to person.  Sometimes changing positions will change the pain as well. In severe cases there could even be a loss of reflexes and muscle wasting.

After Dr. Cox determines what the specific problems are, he will recommend an individualized treatment plan addressing each person’s special needs.  We offer a variety of available treatments including:  chiropractic, brain-based therapies, spinal decompression, massage, core stabilization exercises and Interactive Metronome.
