Neck Pain

neck pain

Neck pain can be caused by inflammation, injury, irritation or infection.  Pain in the neck, arm, shoulder, hand or most frequently results from irritation of cervical nerve roots.

Over time arthritic changes in the vertebrae and disc-thinning, or degeneration, may occur.  However, in spite of all these changes, there may not be any pain.  Studies have shown little or no correlation between the degree of pain felt in the neck and arthritic changes found on x-rays and MRI.

Dr. Cox takes a more wholistic approach to the treatment of neck pain.  After a thorough neurological exam he determines which part of the nervous system is not functioning properly and develops an individualized treatment program specific to each patient needs.

Treatments could include chiropractic manipulation together with brain-based therapies, spinal decompression, adjunctive physiotherapies, massage and specialized exercise.
