Carpal Tunnel

Carpal Tunnel DistractionCarpal Tunnel Syndrome is painful and progressive.  It is caused by the compression of a vital nerve in the wrist.  Symptoms usually start gradually,  with pain, weakness, or numbness in the hand and wrist and radiates up the arm.

As symptoms get worse, people might feel tingling during the day. Decreased grip strength may make it difficult to grasp small objects,  to make a fist, or perform other manual tasks.

The risk of developing carpal tunnel syndrome increases in those who perform repetitive tasks such as an assembly line or working at a computer.

“Double Crush” often accompanies Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, where the nerve is damaged or “pinched” along its path from the neck, to the shoulder, to the forearm into the wrist.  Once the nerve is damaged at the wrist it becomes more suseptible to injury elsewhere.  It is important that the nerve be examined along its entire path in order to properly determine the correct treatment plan. Addressing damage at the wrist only can be short sited and lead to poor long term outcomes.

We address every level of the nerve involvement and develop a varied treatment program that could include wrist, elbow and shoulder adjustments, decompression, adjunctive physiotherapy, massage and nutritional support.
