Medical University Study Proves that Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression Can Reduce & Heal Herniated Discs

Feeling Good after Non-surgical Spinal DecompressionA remarkable study, largely ignored by the medical community, could help thousands of people suffering from low back and leg pain.  It could provide a conservative option for certain individuals without the risks of invasive surgeries.

Edward L. Eyerman, MD conducted the study at the St. Louis University School of Medicine and presented his findings at the 21st Annual Meeting of the American Society of Neuroimaging in 1998.

Twenty patients with lower back pain and radiating leg pain, (which was documented with MRI, clinical examination and electromyography), received treatment on a non-surgical spinal decompression table. Fourteen patients had confirmed disc protrusions between 4-10 mm and some had protrusions and/or spinal stenosis or inflammation of the facets.

Within four to five weeks 18 patients received 20 lumbar decompression treatments and 2 patients with extra large disc herniations were given 40 treatments within 10 weeks.  Assessments were made before, during and after their non-surgical spinal decompression treatments.

Remarkable Results !

Ten out of 14 patients had significant reductions in the size of their disc herniations. 50-100% reductions occurred in six patients and 25-50% in four patients. Two patients with smaller herniations had remarkable clinical improvements. Three patients with large disc hernations showed reductions of 90-100% after their treatments.

Follow-up MRIs confirmed reductions in herniations and actual sealing and healing of some discs.

All but three had significant pain relief as well as relief from weakness and immobility where present.  The improvement in clinical symptoms generally followed the MRI changes.

Dr. Eyerman concluded that non-surgical spinal decompression should be considered an alternative to surgery and long term disability for lumbar pain sufferers.
